In the early years, donations of goods outgrew the space available in the Smiths’ yard and carport, and spread to occupy satellite locations around town. Occupancy of one such location, a church basement, led to incorporation as an independent 501 not-for-profit in 1999. The practicality of continuous steady growth to meet increasing need eventually necessitated centralizing the operation.

For years we’ve been called by variations of many different names ranging from HGRM to Acton Recycling Ministry to Hugroom to Household Goods Recycling Ministry, and everything in between. Clients are allowed one lifetime visit to Household Goods and should arrange access to a box truck prior to scheduling an appointment. Our volunteers will load a box truck but not personal vehicles as these would need to be loaded by the client. Cancellations and No Shows prevent other families from getting the items they need. If your client needs to cancel or reschedule an appointment, the client should notify you. Please read the information below prior to submitting our Client Referral Form and To help us process your referral as quickly as possible, please provide all of the information requested on the form.
Once we process your referral, we will confirm an appointment date and time with you by email. It is your responsibility to notify your clients and confirm that they are prepared to keep their appointment. Please do not notify your clients of a requested appointment date and time until you receive a confirmation email from Household Goods. Each year, Household Goods furnishes over 2,500 homes with 60,000 pieces of furniture and smaller household items. All this is made possible by hundreds of dedicated volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year.

Except during holiday closures, drop-off donations can be made on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9am to 12n without an appointment.
